Creator and original star to topline musical's L.A. run

Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator and original star of Tony-winning tuner “In the Heights,” will return to the show’s lead role for the Los Angeles stop on the national tour of show.

Miranda, who picked up a 2008 Tony for his score to “Heights,” will play Usnavi, who runs a bodega in the upper Manhattan community that is the focus of the musical.

Writer-performer is currently at work on the screen version of the show, to be helmed by Kenny Ortega, as well as a new stage musical based on the cheerleading comedy feature “Bring It On.”

“Heights” will play the Pantages Theater June 22-July 11.
