A musical revival from helmer Michael Mayer (“American Idiot”), a new play by John Patrick Shanley (“Doubt”) and a new tuner directed by Alex Timbers (“Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson”) are among the productions on the lineup of the annual Powerhouse Theater season (June 25-Aug. 1) from Vassar and New York Stage and Film.
Mayer, who developed “American Idiot” last summer at Powerhouse before it went on to Berkeley Rep and then Broadway, will direct a re-imagining of reincarnation-themed musical “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.” Original songs by Alan Jay Lerner and Burton Lane will be matched with a new book by Peter Parnell.
“Clear Day” will be given a musical workshop, as will the Timbers-helmed new tuner “Bonfire Night” by Justin Levine.
Latest from Shanley, a Powerhouse regular, is called “Pirate.” It will play the theater’s mainstage, as will the world preem of “We Are Here” by playwright-perfomer Tracy Thorne.
Three plays will receive workshops: Seth Zvi Rosenfeld’s “Handball,” Maria Cassi and Patrick Pacheco’s “My Life With Men — and Other Animals,” and Keith Bunin’s “Sam Bendrix at the Bon Soir.”
