Branford Marsalis will compose the incidental music for the Broadway revival of the August Wilson play “Fences.”
Production, which stars Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, reps the Rialto debut for saxophonist and composer Marsalis, who will pen transitional tunes and other music cues for “Fences.”
Wilson’s 1987 play proved a big hit in its original Broadway run. Given Washington’s B.O. track record with his successful 2005 outing “Julius Caesar,” the new staging looks likely to draw crowds as well.
Kenny Leon (“A Raisin in the Sun”) helms the revival, produced by Carole Shorenstein Hays and Scott Rudin. Show begins previews April 14 ahead of an April 26 opening.
