Kail, Gold tapped to helm world preems
LCT3, Lincoln Center Theater’s three-year-old programming initiative for emerging legit creatives, has announced the first two productions of its 2010-2011 season: world preems of plays “The Coward” and “When I Come to Die.”
Both shows will reunite writers and directors who have worked together in the past. Playwright Nick Jones and director Sam Gold (“Circle Mirror Transformation”), who partnered on Off Off Broadway buzzmagnet “Jollyship the Whiz-Bang,” will debut “The Coward” Nov. 8. Period comedy set in 18th century England will have its official opening night Nov. 22 and run until Dec. 4.
Writer Nathan Louis Jackson and helmer Thomas Kail (“In the Heights”), who teamed on prior LCT production “Broke-ology,” will collaborate again with “When I Come to Die.” The drama, which tells the story of a death-row inmate whose life is spared, will begin performances Jan, 31 and run through Feb. 26. Opening night is set for Feb. 14.
Both productions will be staged at the Duke on 42nd Street. Announcement of a third production is forthcoming.
