James Lapine has been tapped to helm the Broadway revival of “Annie,” targeting Broadway for fall 2012.
Most recent Broadway outing for Lapine (“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”) was “Sondheim on Sondheim,” his latest collaboration with Stephen Sondheim in a string of productions that has included “Sunday in the Park With George,” “Into the Woods” and “Passion.”
Arielle Tepper Madover (“Red,” “Hamlet”) is joined on the producing team by Roger Horchow, Sally Horchow, Roger Berlind, Jane Bergere, Roy Furman, Stacey Mindich, Daryl Roth and Nederlander Presentations. Show will play a Nederlander house to be determined.
Upcoming staging is the second Rialto revival for “Annie,” the well-known 1977 tuner by songwriters Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin and book writer Thomas Meehan. Musical played on Broadway for nearly six years in its original run.
