Veanne Cox (“Caroline, or Change”), Robin de Jesus (“In the Heights”) and Nick Adams (“A Chorus Line”) are among thesps lined up for the cast of the Broadway revival of “La Cage aux Folles,” starring Kelsey Grammer.
Newcomer A.J. Shively will play Jean-Michel, the son of the central gay couple played by Grammer and Douglas Hodge, who won a string of awards for that role in the revival’s original U.K. incarnation. Elena Shaddow (starring this weekend in “Fanny” at Encores!), Christine Andreas (“Oklahoma!”) and Brit thesp Nicholas Cunningham, another “La Cage” vet from across the Pond, also are among the cast.
Cox will play the conservative mother whose daughter (Shaddow) is set to marry Jean-Michel. De Jesus portrays flamboyant butler Jacob, while Andreas appears as a gay-friendly restaurant owner and Adams will play a member of high-kicking drag troupe Les Cagelles.
The 1983 tuner by Jerry Herman and Harvey Fierstein, staged by helmer Terry Johnson and choreographer Lynne Page, kicks off previews April 6 ahead of an April 18 opening at the Longacre Theater.
