Shirley Knight and LaChanze (“The Color Purple”) will appear in a two-night, two-city performance of “Swimming Upstream,” a new play penned and performed by a group of women from New Orleans.
Hurricane Katrina-themed play, helmed by Eve Ensler (who also facilitated the writing process), will play New Orleans’ Mahalia Jackson Theater Sept. 10, an event timed to the fifth anniversary of Katrina. Production will then shift to Gotham’s Apollo Theater on Sept. 13.
