T.R. Knight has been tapped to appear opposite Patrick Stewart in the Broadway staging of David Mamet two-hander “A Life in the Theater.”
In the backstage tale, Knight plays a newbie actor who is mentored by an older, more experienced thesp played by Stewart.
Before his stint on “Grey’s Anatomy,” Knight was an Off Broadway regular, appearing in such productions as “Scattergood,” “Boy” and “This Lime Tree Bower.” His Main Stem credits include a 2003 Roundabout Theater staging of “Tartuffe.”
“Life” will be directed by Neil Pepe, who helmed the Mamet revival “Speed-the-Plow” during the 2008-09 season. Staging is lead produced by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel and Steve Traxler — the trio behind “Speed-the-Plow” and current Mamet offering, “Race.”
“Life” begins previews Aug. 23 ahead of a Sept. 23 opening at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater.
