Junior Theater Fest renames student awards

Kudos dubbed FreddieG's in honor of MTI chair

The annual Junior Theater Fest, the gathering of students and teachers from legit education programs around the country, has renamed its student awards The FreddieG’s in honor of Freddie Gershon, the chair of Music Theater Intl. (MTI), which licenses tuner rights to schools and education groups, among other orgs. Gershon created MTI Education, a division of MTI, to focus on the education marketplace.

Also at the fest, composer Stephen Schwartz (“Wicked”) will receive a kudo for the advancement of musical theater for young people.

Fest is co-produced by iTheatrics and Theater of the Stars in Atlanta, where the fest runs Jan. 15-17.
