Hunt moves to ‘Our Town’

Joins Off Broadway production July 6

Helen Hunt will step into the Off Broadway staging of “Our Town” next month, taking on the narrator role of the Stage Manager.

She’ll follow Michael McKean, who departs the production July 4. Stage Manager is often played by a man — in this production the role was originated by helmer David Cromer — but there’s little that’s gender-specific about the part, which remains largely outside the action of the play.

Hunt previously appeared in a Gotham staging of “Our Town” with a stint in the 1988 Lincoln Center Theater staging, in which she played Emily, one of the titular town’s inhabitants.

Hunt, whose Main Stem credits also include “Twelfth Night” and “Life (x) 3,” joins “Our Town” July 6-Aug. 1 at Barrow Street Theater.
