Jennifer Coolidge, poured into her silver Nicole Miller, brought real pizzazz to the SoHo House party on Sunday for “Elling.” Not that the new looney-bin comedy gave her much opportunity to glam it up.
“And here I am again playing a pregnant woman who smokes and drinks,” Coolidge joked, referring to her previous Broadway outing as the baby-machine Edith in “The Women.”
“Elling” is a bit grungy. Co-star Denis O’Hare, not seen on Broadway in three years, revealed that the play’s act-two exchange of underwear provided him with “possibly the most intimate” moment he’s ever shared on stage with another actor, in this case, Brendan Fraser, making his Broadway debut. “Fortunately for Brendan,” said O’Hare, “I change my underwear during intermission, so it is a fresh pair.”
