Known for 'Fred Allen-ish' dry wit
Former Radio City Music Hall Rockette Evelyn Rakovich Ashley died Nov. 9 of cardiac arrest in New York City. She was 87.
Ashley joined the Rockettes in 1940 at age 17. She danced with the company for 26 years and was known for her ability to jump into any spot on the line, eye kicking with the rest of the Rockettes.
She also had a “Fred Allen-ish” dry wit, according to Ann Murphy, recording secretary for the Rockette Alumnae Assn.
Survivors include a daughter.
