Charles Busch’s “The Divine Sister,” the wimple-laffer that played a sold-out developmental run at Off Off Broadway’s Theater for the New City earlier this year, will get a commercial Off Broadway transfer this fall.
Daryl Roth produces the open-ended engagement, for which the original cast — including Julie Halston, Alison Fraser and Busch — will return. Carl Andress reprises his directorial duties.
Comedy, a spoof of nun-centric Hollywood pics, follows the Mother Superior (Busch) of a Pittsburgh convent and her unruly pack of postulants and nuns.
Creative team includes B.T. Whitehill (set), Fabio Toblini (costumes), Kirk Bookman (lights) and Jill B.C. DuBoff (sound).
Amy Rutberg, Jennifer Van Dyck and Jonathan Walker also are among the cast.
“Divine Sister” begins previews Sept. 12 ahead of a Sept. 22 opening at the Soho Playhouse.
