Chicago hit “The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity” will get a New York preem from Off Broadway’s Second Stage Theater, where the buzzed-about new play begins perfs in April.
Show earned raves from Windy City press when it opened in the fall. Edward Torres, who helmed the original staging, will direct the play by Kristoffer Diaz.
“Deity,” a look at race through the unlikely prism of pro wrestling, follows a grappler who discovers a young star. Staging, originally a co-production of Chicago troupes Victory Gardens and Teatro Vista, includes wrestling sequences in a ring.
No casting for the New York incarnation has yet been announced. Show’s cast in Chi included Desmin Borges, Usman Ally, Kamal Angelo Bolden, James Krag and Christian Litke.
“Deity” begins previews April 27 ahead of a May 20 opening at Second Stage.
