Cirque to create Jackson shows

Tour to launch in 2011 followed by 2012 Vegas show

Cirque du Soleil has pacted with the estate of Michael Jackson to create live shows based on Jackson’s songs.

Plan calls for a touring arena production to launch in late 2011, followed by a permanent Vegas offering in 2012.

Cirque has previously created successful outings using tunes by the Beatles and Elvis Presley.

Both Jackson offerings will be presented in partnership with MGM Mirage, although the exact venue for the permanent Vegas outing remains to be nailed down.

Jackson estate and Cirque will each own a 50% stake in the new project and share all costs and profits.
