Center Theater Group and New Orleans’ Southern Rep are among the six orgs to have picked up grants as part of MetLife Foundation and Theater Communications Group’s “A-ha! Program.”
Coin goes to support the planning and execution of new ideas and practices. This year the total awarded hit $225,000, up from $150,000 the prior year.
Three recipients received $25,000 each for the preliminary research and planning phases of new programs, including Minneapolis’ Pillsbury House Theater, Denver’s Curious Theater Company and L.A.’s CTG, which is investigating an internship model that matches arts admin grad students with area theaters.
A second trio of companies got $50,000 each to execute new plans, including Southern Rep (aiming to bring arts to underserved communities through student-run theaters), Northlight Theater in Skokie, Ill. and Dad’s Garage Theater Company in Atlanta.
