Casey Reitz has been tapped as the new exec director of Off Broadway’s Second Stage Theater, joining the company as it moves toward completing the purchase of a Broadway venue.
Reitz, currently director of development at the Public, succeeds Ellen Richard, the Roundabout veteran who was recently named exec director at American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.
Reitz’s tenure at the Public has included raising funds for the org’s $35 million capital campaign. He also has served in posts at Manhattan Theater Club and Atlanta’s Actors’ Express.
Second Stage struck a deal for the rights to buy Broadway’s Helen Hayes Theater in 2008. The move, if successful, would put the org on a Main Stem landscape that also includes outposts for fellow nonprofits Manhattan Theater Club, Lincoln Center Theater and the Roundabout.
Next up at Second Stage’s Off Broadway venue is the preem of Paul Weitz play “Trust” starring Zach Braff and Bobby Cannavale. Reitz joins the company in September.
