Bernadette Peters, on Broadway in the revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “A Little Night Music,” has been inked for the upcoming Kennedy Center production of the Sondheim-James Goldman tuner “Follies.”
Peters will play the role of Sally Durant Plummer in the revival’s first principal casting assignment, a Kennedy Center spokesman said. It will be her first appearance in the 40-year-old “Follies,” according to the center.
Show is slated for a May 7-June 5 run in the center’s Eisenhower Theater. It will be directed by Eric Schaeffer, a.d. of Arlington, Va.’s Signature Theater, who helmed the Kennedy Center’s Sondheim Celebration festival in 2002. Warren Carlyle will choreograph.
Other credits include sets by Derek McLane, costumes by Gregg Barnes, lighting by Natasha Katz and sound by Peter Hylenski. Jonathan Tunick’s original orchestrations will be featured.
