Off Broadway nonprofit theater Ars Nova has tapped former Manhattan Theater Club exec Jeremy Blocker as its first managing director.
Blocker, who was director of individual giving for MTC, will manage Ars Nova’s finances, with a.d. Jason Eagan continuing to head creative. Eagan will have the added help of associate a.d. Emily Shooltz, who was bumped up to the position earlier this year.
Blocker succeeds Ars Nova founders Jon Steingart and Jenny Wiener Steingart, who exec produced the shows at the theater but were interested in taking a less-active role in its financing and are now board members.”
The board decided at some point last year that in order to move forward and grow the company they needed a managing director,” Blocker said. “The art was in a great place and the kind of work the institution was doing was already at a really high level, but the administrative support — the fundraising, organization, board development, marketing — hadn’t grown at the same pace. They felt they needed someone at Jason’s level on the business side to handle all of that.”
The theater’s next production will be Carly Mensch’s “Now Circa Then,” helmed by Eagan.
