Zurich has its Eye on Forman

Fest will fete helmer with career award

The sixth Zurich Film Festival will present Milos Forman with its Golden Eye for life work as a director on Oct. 2.

The 78-year-old Czech-American multihyphenate will be in Zurich to accept the award.

Last year’s recipient Roman Polanski was arrested, at the request of L.A. authorities in a 1970s sex case, when he flew in to Zurich on his way to the festival.

The fest will also present a retrospective of his work including “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” “Amadeus,” and “The People vs. Larry Flynt.”

Forman will discuss his films at a workshop presented by ZFF’s Master Class series, which gives 25 selected participants the opportunity to exchange ideas with the director.

Other recipients of the honor are Constantin Costa-Gavras, Oliver Stone and Stephen Frears.

Festival runs Sept. 23-Oct. 3.
