Max Mara 'Face of the Future'

After duty on “Law & Order” and the short-lived “Six Degrees,” Zoe Saldana knocked her acting career into the stratosphere last year with starring roles in “Avatar” and “Star Trek,” playing Neytiri and Uhura in those blockbusters. So it seems that the honor of Max Mara “Face of the Future” is just a little late.

With “The Losers” and “Death at a Funeral” in theaters, “Takers” on the way this August and the next “Star Trek” on the horizon, Saldana is the Face of Right Now, not later.

The 31-year-old actress charges ahead and isn’t letting any of the traditional roadblocks slow her down.

“I was born into a society and into a time where there are certain topics that feel alien to us. To me it is a birthright to be equal to a man,” Saldana says. “It is an absolute birthright, and if I can’t walk into a room as an equal, then you, as a man, need to wait outside with me. And I’m not going to fight about it, because I know I am just as much as you are.”

Which means that Saldana’s five-year plan might just include having a baby with her longtime partner, Keith Britton, and that it definitely means she’s going to follow her career dreams whether or not she takes some time out to become a mother.

“I’d like to direct, to produce,” she reveals. “I like having control, having power. I have a lot of confidence in myself, confidence that I know what the fuck I am doing. It’s not arrogance, because it is not something I impose on other people. I am very competitive with myself, and I need to believe in my heart that I have good taste when it comes to storytelling. I would love to be able to manifest that and be able to become a filmmaker.”
