WME taps Brown for lectures division

Washington Speakers exec to head agency sector

WME is backing up its talk with action.

Tenpercentery has hired talk-circuit maven Theresa Brown to head up its lectures division.

The Washington, D.C.-based Brown is seguing to WME from a VP post at Washington Speakers Bureau, where her roster included everyone from former heads of state to such popular pundits as Arianna Huffington. It is unclear which clients Brown will be bringing with her to WME, but Huffington is expected to follow.

“With Theresa at the helm, we will be able to provide great speaking opportunities for our clients in all areas,” said WME co-CEO Ari Emanuel and WME board member Jennifer Rudolph Walsh. “She is the perfect choice to lead this department.”

WME is looking to 25-year veteran Brown to expand the agency’s presence in the lucrative field of lectures, where clients often earn $100,000-plus to address corporations in a variety of industries, from pharmaceuticals to financial service firms.

Brown, who spent nine years at Washington Speakers Bureau, also founded the lectures division of global brand experience agency Jack Morton Worldwide. During her 14-year tenure with the company, she integrated speakers into a variety of branding opportunites including new product launches, internal and external events, live meetings and videos.

WME’s lectures roster includes Erin Brockovich, Alton Brown, Ken Burns, Bill Cosby, James Cramer, Donny Deutsch, Bobby Flay, Whoopi Goldberg, Jerome Groopman, Lisa Ling, Queen Latifah, Kathy Reichs, Jason Reitman, Joe Scarborough, Curtis Sittenfeld, Howard Schultz, John Travolta, Ivanka Trump, Serena Williams and Forest Whitaker.

Brown will continue to be based in Washington.
