Russell Brand to be feted at Dec. 4 fund-raiser
Comedian Russell Brand will be feted for his contributions to women’s cancer research at Variety’s inaugural Power of Comedy event, set for Dec. 4 at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles.Performers set to appear include Aziz Ansari, Sarah Silverman, Bob Saget, Patton Oswalt, B.J. Novak, Nick Kroll and Brandon T. Jackson. Event will benefit the Noreen Fraser Foundation’s Men for Women Now initiative to raise money for women’s cancer research. “With a night full of laughs, and a truly deserving cause at the core, we hope to raise awareness and empower fans to get involved and support much-needed funding for women’s cancer research,” said Variety associate publisher Michelle Sobrino. Variety’s Power of Comedy will be presented by Electronic Arts’ “The Sims 3” vidgame, in partnership with Bing, and with supporting partners that include Babelgum and Comedy Central. Power of Comedy adds to Variety’s philanthropic initiatives that include the Power of Youth and Power of Women franchises.
