October conference offers biz insight, advice and discussion

Variety’s first Film Marketing Summit, focused on feature film promotion, will take place Oct. 5-6 at the Universal Hilton in Los Angeles.

Highlights of the two-day conference include insights from “hitmakers and rulebreakers” on how to connect big ideas and talent with consumers, a look at marketing campaigns that create relationships with moviegoers well beyond the theaters and a review of new technologies that change the way professionals go to market. The event also will include a live pitch session with top creative talent on how to launch a blockbuster franchise.

“We are providing a platform for thoughtful discussion about feature film marketing,” Variety publisher Brian Gott said. “There are few other businesses where executives need to bow entirely new products on a weekly basis.”

Besides featuring top Hollywood execs, the summit will hear promotions and publicity ideas from leaders in gaming, mobile technology and social media.

The program was developed in partnership with Gordon Paddison, of global marketing firm Stradella Road, who has created campaigns for “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy as well as the “Austin Powers” and “Blade” franchises.
