Uruguay has opted to send Federico Veiroj’s romantic comedy “La vida util” (A Useful Life) to represent the country at the Foreign Oscars race.
A committee led by the national film institute Icau and producers’s org. Asoprod selected Veiroj’s pic over six other contenders.
Set against the backdrop of a theater on its last legs, “La vida util” follows an overworked film programmer whose infatuation with a woman transforms his life.
Veiroj’s sophomore pic is a Cinekdoque presentation in co-production with Spain’s Mediapro and Versatil Cinema.
Submissions for the foreign-language film Oscar must reach the Academy by 5 p.m. on Friday. Nominations will be announced on Jan. 25. The 83rd Academy Awards
will be held at the Kodak Theater on Feb. 27.
