Gotham film festival announces 14th annual roster

Magnolia Pictures’ “Night Catches Us” will open Gotham’s 14th annual Urbanworld Film Fest, with a lineup that includes world preems of Danny Glover starrer “Mooz-lum” and closing night selection “I Will Follow.”

Qasim Basir’s “Mooz-lum,” which stars Nia Long and Evan Ross, is part of the narrative feature competish along with Kartik Singh’s “Callback,” also a world preem, and Rob O’Hara’s “The Inheritance.”

Feature doc competitors include Nabil Elderkin’s Common-narrated pic “Bouncing Cats” and “Grown in Detroit: Teen Moms, Urban Farmers.”

Fest includes two short film competitions, one for features and another for docs, as well as readings of its five screenplay finalists.

“Night,” Tanya Hamilton’s film about a former Black Panther, stars Anthony Mackie and Kerry Washington, who serves as fest ambassador. Ava DuVernay’s “I Will Follow,” stars Salli Richardson-Whitfield.

Urbanworld runs Sept. 15-19.
