Feature based on Shalom Auslander work

Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Prods. is launching development of a feature version of Shalom Auslander’s vacation tale “Paradise Lost,” and has tapped Kim Barker to adapt.

Auslander performed the work as a segment on Public Radio Intl.’s “This American Life,” focusing on trip to a Caribbean island and his out-of-control obsession to uncover the secret of the chatty old guy next door, whom everyone adored — except Auslander.

Tribeca Prods., headed by De Niro and Jane Rosenthal, produced “Public Enemies” and the upcoming “Little Fockers.” The banner has a first-look deal at Universal.

Barker’s credits include “All About Steve” and “License to Wed.”

Auslander, whose work often deals with his Orthodox Jewish background, is adapting “Foreskin’s Lament: A Memoir” and finishing his first novel.
