'Rabbit Without Ears' director plans kid project

BERLIN — Til Schweiger is moving into animation with an adaptation of his children’s book “Rabbit Without Ears and Two-Eared Chick,” inspired by the stuffed toys in his live-action “Rabbit” films.

Warner Bros. is producing the toon with Schweiger’s Barefoot Films and Thilo Graf Rothkirch’s Berlin-based Cartoon Film.

Schweiger and Rothkirch will co-direct. Project got $1.1 million from regional subsidy board Filmstiftung NRW.

Also nabbing NRW funding was “The Congress,” from helmer Ari Folman (“Waltz With Bashir”).

The partially animated pic, starring Robin Wright and loosely based on Stanislaw Lem’s satirical sci-fi novel “The Futurological Congress,” received $960,000 in support.

Cologne-based Pandora Film is co-producing “The Congress” with France’s Les Armateurs and Le Pacte.
