Jez Butterworth teams with band members on feature
Scribe Jez Butterworth, whose recent credits include “Fair Game” and “The Last Legion,” is joining forces with Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of the Clash to make a feature about the band entitled “London Calling.”
Skedded to lense in 2011, pic is produced by Alison Owen and Paul Trijbits via their Ruby Film and Television.
Butterworth is also producing; Jones and Simonon are advisers and exec producers and have granted exclusive rights to the music.
Script, which Butterworth is writing with the support of the recently shuttered U.K. Film Council, will follow how music bizzer Guy Stevens (who advised the Who early in their career) steered the punk band to fame with their hit 1979 album “London Calling.”
Ruby Film’s upcoming pics include helmer Luca Guadagnino’s “Corsica 72,” penned by Robert Wade and Neal Purvis, and “Sex Education,” written by Jonathan Stern and Jamie Minoprio, which topped this year’s Brit List for hot screenplays.
Shingle also recently struck a co-production and distrib deal with ITV Studios Global Entertainment.
