Sundance selects grant recipients

Docs and pics get funding help from the institute

The Sundance Institute has selected 11 projects to receive its 2010 Cinereach Project grants.

The pics will share in $1.5 million in grants to help fund development, production or post-production. The grants are part of a three-year initiative Sundance and nonprofit org Cinereach established to support docs and films that feature social themes or unique storytelling.

The projects include the John Cameron Mitchell-produced animated feature “The Ruined Cast,” Alaskan murder drama “On the Ice” and documentaries touching on the BP oil spill and Arizona’s immigration law.

The Cinereach Project at Sundance also supports the institute’s various educational labs, from which most of the recipients are fellows.
