Foster, Gibson pic to first bow in limited release
Summit Entertainment has firmed a launch date for Jodie Foster’s “The Beaver.” It’s set to bow in limited release on Wednesday, March 23, before expanding on April 8.
After delaying the dark comedy due to controversy surrounding star Mel Gibson, Summit announced earlier this month that it would aim for a spring release.
Directed by Foster from a script by Kyle Killen, “The Beaver” centers on a depressed man (Gibson) who finds comfort in a beaver hand puppet. Foster plays his wife, with Anton Yelchin and Riley Thomas Stewart portraying their sons. Jennifer Lawrence (“Winter’s Bone”) also stars. Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin and Keith Redmon produced.
Summit acquired rights to the film in August 2009.
