Strike snags Greek aisles

Labor issues paralyze public services

A national strike that has paralyzed Greece’s public services and resulted in the cancellation of all flights in and out of Athens airport on Wednesday, delayed the opening Thursday of the country’s national film center stand at Berlin’s EFM.

Greek Film Center/Hellas Film representatives Iliana Zakopoulou and Evi Lazari, who were due to fly into Berlin on Wednesday, had to rebook for Thursday morning as the strike brought Greece to a standstill.

The strike was by public-sector workers alarmed at government plans to tackle a $419 billion budget deficit by freezing wages and raising the retirement age.

Most Greek buyers and sellers were flying into Berlin on Thursday, the first working day for the EFM.
