Strand fishes with ‘Rivers’

Company nabs N. American rights to John Young drama

Strand Releasing has acquired North American rights to John Young’s drama “Rivers Wash Over Me” and plans a limited theatrical release beginning in late May/early June in New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Atlanta.

Strand handled home video rights for Young’s “Paralell Sons” and all rights for his previous effort, “The Reception.” Young’s developing “Paradise” about Keith Haring and the art scene which developed in New York’s East Village during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.

“Rivers” centers on a 15-year-old from Brooklyn who is sent to live with his aunt in rural Alabama and the domestic turmoil that results from his arrival.

The film stars Darien Sills Evans, Elizabeth Dennis and Derrick L. Middleton, who won a best actor award from Outfest. “Rivers” won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Feature from The Chicago LGBT film festival.
