Stockholm fest fetes Van Sant

Director will receive Visionary Award

STOCKHOLM — Gus Van Sant is to receive Stockholm Film Festival’s Visionary Award.

The helmer will travel to Stockholm to receive his award and to hold a master class at the fest, which runs Nov 17-28.

Fest topper Git Scheynius said, “Gus Van Sant’s films and visions of an alternative America are a celebration of film art and have been a part of the Stockholm Film Festival for 20 years.”

His long list of films include “My Own Private Idaho,” “To Die For,” “Elephant,” “Paranoid Park” and most recently “Milk,” which won Oscars for best actor (Sean Penn) and best original screenplay.

Van Sant is currently in post on “Restless,” starring Mia Wasikowska and Schuyler Fisk. Pic will premiere in 2011.

Among previous winners of the award are Todd Solondz, Terry Gilliam, Wes Anderson and Wong Kar Wai
