Lionsgate may have taken a lesson from its latest release, “The Spy Next Door,” with the Saturday premiere at the Grove in Los Angeles feeling a lot like afternoon day care.
Moppets both in front and on the red carpet crowded the early morning bow. Kid stars Madeline Carroll, Will Shadley and Alina Foley joined adult co-stars George Lopez, Billy Ray Cyrus and the international spy himself, Jackie Chan.
Chan admitted the younger thesps kept him busy on set: “If they want to sleep, they sleep; if they want to walk away, they walk away. Every time I have a twenty-minute break, they say, ‘Come on Jackie, show me some tricks.'”
Prexy of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group and co-COO, Joe Drake, praised Chan for his comedic talents and described the pic as “a family film about family and people coming together.” Drake even brought his two sons and “the whole basketball team” to the event.
“They never ask to see a movie,” he said. “But there was something about the combination of kids and Jackie that made my little boys want to see this.”
