Spike TV has struck a deal with Lionsgate for the rights to air weekend B.O. hit “The Expendables” in its first broadcast window, with a premiere scheduled for April 2013.
Sylvester Stallone-helmed pic opened Friday to a No. 1 ranking in domestic box office and had grossed $38.8 million through Monday.
“We’re committed to monetizing our strong slate of films in all distribution platforms, and Spike has proven to be a perfect partner for our action thrillers,” said Lions-gate TV group prexy Kevin Beggs.
In June, Spike licensed Lions-gate’s “Kick-Ass,” along with “Bangkok Dangerous,” “Gamer” and “From Paris With Love.”
“We look forward to a continuing pipeline of action thrillers from (Lionsgate) in the future,” said Spike prexy Kevin Kay.
Stallone co-wrote “Expendables” with David Callaham. Avi Lerner, John Thompson and Kevin King Templeton produced.
