Vanessa Hudgens and Alex Pettyfer, stars of CBS Films’ teen romance “Beastly,” will receive the 2010 ShoWest Female and Male Star of Tomorrow awards at next month’s annual gathering of theater owners in Las Vegas.
An unconventional take on the classic tale “Beauty and the Beast,” “Beastly” tells the story of an egocentric and handsome teen who, as a result of a curse, becomes horribly unattractive. The only chance of reversing the spell is to find someone who will love him, warts and all.
Film is scheduled to open July 30.
“Beastly” was written and directed by Daniel Barnz. He adapted from Alex Flinn’s novel of the same name.
Hudgens’ credits include the “High School Musical” franchise, “Thirteen” and “Thunderbirds.” She recently wrapped production on Zack Snyder’s “Sucker Punch.”
A London native, Pettyfer’s credits include U.K. miniseries “Tom Brown’s Schooldays,” which led to his role as Alex Rider in “Stormbreaker.”
ShoWest runs March 15-18 at the Paris and Bally hotels. Awards will be presented at the closing night banquet.
