Warner Bros. and New Line’s “Sex and the City 2” easily topped the domestic box office Thursday, earning $14.2 million at 3,445 locations.
Pic’s $3 million take from 2,100 midnight runs was added to its opening day gross.
Early bow was part of Warner’s plan to get a leg up on the competish this Memorial Day Weekend as the sequel is expected to strut near $60 million during the holiday frame.
The first “Sex” installment grossed $26.8 million on Friday the week after Memorial Day Weekend 2008 for an opening of $57 million. That film went on to cume $152.6 million domestically.
The frame’s other wide release Disney’s “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” opens today at 3,665 locations.
