Screen Media acquires Leslie Nielsen’s last laffer

Direct-to-DVD stoner comedy to be released Jan. 11

Screen Media Films has acquired the rights to “Stonerville,” the last film to feature the late Leslie Nielsen.

The direct-to-DVD pic follows a comedian and YouTube sensation, played by Patrick Cavanaugh, who has an affinity for a particular illicit substance while trying to break into the advertising industry. Nielsen has cameos in the film as Cavanaugh’s boss, an ad producer.

“Screen Media is proud to be a part of Leslie Nielsen’s legacy,” said Screen Media prexy Robert Baruc.

Nielsen died of pneumonia on Nov. 28 at in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He was 84.

In addition to Nielsen and Cavanaugh, “Stonerville” features Pauly Shore and Phil Morris. Pic is skedded for release on Jan. 11.
