Screen Gems woos ‘Lady’ screenwriters

Merryman, Newman set to adapt Harvey's book

Screen Gems has hired scribes Keith Merryman and David A. Newman to adapt Steve Harvey’s bestseller “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man.”

Battle-of-the-sexes project will be produced by Will Packer via his Rainforest Films banner. Harvey will serve as exec producer alongside Rushion McDonald and Rob Hardy.

Relationship advice book, written in Harvey’s comedic voice, has sold more than 1.4 million copies and is being printed in 26 different languages. Tome sheds light on everything from why men are in the fixing business and not the talking business to why independent women should reconnect with their girlish side to make their men feel necessary.

Merryman and Newman, who recently worked with Screen Gems when they penned a draft of the upcoming pic “Burlesque,” are writing the English-language remake of the Swedish film “Patrik 1.5” for Laurence Mark Prods. and Spitfire.
