Ari Sandel is in talks to direct dating comedy “The Game,” set up at Lionsgate with Spyglass and Depth of Field producing.
Adam Sztykiel, who wrote “Due Date” for Todd Phillips and Warner Bros., is rewriting “The Game.”
Lionsgate had no comment about the directing deal. Sandel won an Oscar for live-action short for his USC graduate film “West Bank Story” in 2007, directed “Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days and 30 Nights — Hollywood to the Heartland” and signed to helm “Dancing With Myself” for Polly Johnsen and Bernie Goldman.
“The Game,” based on Neil Strauss’ eponymous dating tome, was first set up at Sony with Michael De Luca in 2006. A year later, Spyglass picked up bigscreen rights and tapped Dan Weiss to adapt the book.
“The Game” recounts “an average frustrated chump’s” attempts to become the world’s best pickup artist with the help of professional seduction experts.
Producers are Roger Birnbaum, Gary Barber and Jon Glickman of Spyglass; and Depth of Field’s Andrew Miano and Paul & Chris Weitz.
