Samuel Goldwyn nabs U.S. rights to ‘Raymond’

Second quarter release planned for comedy docu

Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired U.S. theatrical rights to comedy docu “Exporting Raymond” and plans a second-quarter release.

Goldwyn will theatrically distribute the film and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions will handle ancillary rights.

Story follows Phil Rosenthal, creator of the TV series “Everybody Loves Raymond,” as he attempts to help the Russians translate “Raymond” into a local sitcom called “Everybody Loves Kostya,” but finds himself lost in Moscow as he runs into characters and situations that conspire to drive him insane.

Pic’s written and directed by Rosenthal, and produced by Rosenthal and Jim Czarnecki (“Fahrenheit 9/11”) with John Woldenberg exec producing.

Pic premiered at last week’s Austin Film Festival.
