Summit Entertainment has acquired North American rights to Mandate’s Seth Rogen-James McAvoy comedy formerly titled “I’m With Cancer.”
Pic’s due to start shooting later this month in Vancouver with Anna Kendrick also starring. In an announcement Tuesday, Summit said Bryce Dallas Howard has joined the cast.
The film will be directed by Jonathan Levine from a script by Will Reiser. Project will be produced by Rogen, producing partner Evan Goldberg and former “Daily Show” exec producer Ben Karlin. Reiser is exec producing along with Mandate Pictures president Nathan Kahane.
McAvoy portrays a man who learns he has cancer and successfully battles the disease over several years. Character is based on the real experiences of screenwriter Reiser, who won his own fight with cancer in his mid-20s.
Lionsgate will be handling international sales at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin.
Howard will next be seen in Summit’s “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” and Clint Eastwood’s “Hereafter” opposite Matt Damon. Levine, who directed “The Wackness,” recently signed on to direct Summit’s upcoming production “Warm Bodies,” which follows an existentially tormented zombie who begins an unlikely friendship with the girlfriend of one of his victims.
