Rob Riggle has nabbed a role in Universal’s Tom Hanks-Julia Roberts starrer “Larry Crowne.”
Riggle is the latest alum from “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” to segue into a bigscreen career. The show’s roster of correspondents has proved fertile ground for studios looking for comic actors like fellow alums Steve Carell and Ed Helms.
Story centers on a middle-aged man who, after losing his job, decides to reinvent himself by enrolling in college, where he catches the eye of a female professor while bonding with his fellow students. Hanks and Nia Vardalos penned the screenplay.
Lensing begins this month in Los Angeles.
Riggle’s credits also include Sony’s “The Other Guys” with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg and “Team Spitz,” a comedy pilot recently greenlit to series by CBS.
He is repped by CAA and Principato-Young.
Vendome Pictures is fully financing “Larry Crowne.”
