Rising filmmakers score Tribeca Creative Promise awards

Kudos handed out as part of the Tribeca Film Festival

A group of up-and-coming filmmakers picked up kudos in the 7th annual Tribeca All Access Creative Promise Awards, in a Gotham ceremony that took place Friday during the run of the Tribeca Film Fest.

Director-screenwriter Ghazi Albuliwi and director-producer Bandar Albuliwi scored the narrative prize for “Peace After Marriage,” about a lonely Palestinian-American who marries an Israeli woman who needs a green card.

Emerging narrative kudo went to writer-director Lucy Mulloy for “Una Noche,” about a Cuban man struggling to make it to Miami.

Team behind Native American-themed “Plastic Indian” — co-written by T.J. Morehouse (who also produces), James Murray and Gro Engelstoft —

scored for the screenwriting prize. Co-directors and co-editors Miguel Martinez and Jamie Sisley (who also co-produces) took home the documentary laurel for “Farewell, Ferris Wheel,” about the Mexican town from which comes one-third of the U.S. carnival labor.

Awards each come with a $9,500 cash prize except for the screenwriting kudo, which comes with $6,500. Honors were handed out at the Tribeca Film Institute awards ceremony at Gotham’s Union Square Ballroom.

The Tribeca All Access program aims to connect filmmakers from underrepresented communities with film industry pros.
