Ratings board hears prayer on ‘Eat’

Julia Roberts starrer will now receive PG-13 rating

The Classification and Rating Appeals Board has overturned the R rating given to Columbia Pictures’ upcoming “Eat Pray Love,” which will go out with the less-restrictive PG-13 rating.

Decision is a victory for Columbia and the filmmakers, who were caught off-guard earlier this month when “Eat Pray Love” received an R rating for “brief strong language.”

Columbia quickly filed an appeal, with writer-director Ryan Murphy and producer Dede Gardner giving statements to the ratings panel.

No changes were made to the film in order to secure a PG-13 rating.

“Eat Pray Love,” toplining Julia Roberts, opens in theaters Aug. 13 and is based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s best-selling memoir about her post-divorce trip around the world. Javier Bardem plays Roberts’ love interest in the bigscreen adaptation.

In a statement issued late Wednesday, the appeals rating board said “Eat, Pray, Love” is now rated PG-13 for “brief strong language, some sexual references and male rear nudity.”
