Smith gets fest's Filmmaker on the Edge honor

Kevin Smith, Tilda Swinton and helming duo Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman will pick up awards this summer at the Provincetown Intl. Film Fest.

Smith (“Clerks,” “Cop Out”) will take home the 2010 Filmmaker on the Edge Award, given in honor of a boundary-pushing body of work. Handed out annually since the fest was founded in 1999, prior recipients include John Waters and Guy Maddin, who was last year’s honoree.

Swinton (“Michael Clayton”) gets the fest’s kudo for excellence in acting while

Epstein and Friedman will be given the Faith Hubley Memorial Award. The pair helmed, wrote and produced pics including “Common Threads: Stories from the Quilt,” “The Celluloid Closet” and upcoming “Howl.”

Fest will run June 16-20 in Provincetown, Mass.
