Hollywood Award honoree

“If someone told me I had to quit the business tomorrow, I’d be OK with that,” jokes production designer Robert Stromberg, whose 2010 included basking in the success of “Alice in Wonderland” just months after winning an Oscar for “Avatar.” “It would be really hard to top this year.”

For “Alice,” Stromberg drew inspiration from John Tenniel and Arthur Rackham’s original illustrations that accompanied Lewis Carroll’s book.

“I wanted to start the film grounded in what everyone who has ever read the book has already seen,” he explains. “Then take that into Tim Burton’s world and cross-pollinate the two visions. Yet try to put in a little pinch of Disney magic, as well.”

Stromberg is already at work on Sam Raimi’s “Oz: The Great and Powerful.”
