Producers elect Gordon, Koch co-presidents

Duo to serve two-year term, succeeding Herskovitz

The Producers Guild of America has elected Mark Gordon and Hawk Koch to serve a two-year term as co-presidents, succeeding Marshall Herskovitz.

The PGA, which has more than 4,200 members, made the announcement late Friday at the start of its Produced By Conference at 20th Century Fox. Gordon and Koch were selected a month ago by the PGA’s nominating committe.

Herskovitz has served two two-year terms as the PGA prez and is barred from seeking the post again. PGA members also tapped Gary Lucchesi to serve as VP for motion pictures, Hayma “Screech” Washington as VP for TV, and Lauren Shuler Donner as treasurer, topping four others — R.J. Hume, Rachel Klein, Stephen Marinacci and Michael Palmieri.

Gale Anne Hurd has been named to the appointed post of secretary.

It’s the first time the PGA’s nominating committee has selected a pair of members to stand for election as co-prexies, and the second time the guild has been headed by co-presidents. In 2001-02, following the PGA’s merger with the American Assn. of Producers, Kathleen Kennedy and Tim Gibbons served as co-prexies.

Gordon had been the PGA’s VP for TV. He has extensive credits in features, such as “2012” and “Saving Private Ryan” ; he also exec produces the ABC series “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice,” CBS’s “Criminal Minds” and Lifetime’s “Army Wives.”

Koch’s been a member of the PGA board. He has feature credits on 60 pics include “Heaven Can Wait,” “Gorky Park,” “Frequency” and both “Wayne’s World” pics.

Herskovitz received special recognition at a Friday meeting for his service to the PGA and was appointed to the post of president emeritus.

“We’re extremely honored to have the confidence and support of the guild membership,” said Gordon and Koch. “As Co-Presidents, we’re dedicated to building upon the guild’s 60 year history of serving and empowering the producing community. During our tenure we hope to continue to build solidarity by encouraging producers to ‘hire from within,’ continue to protect the Producers Code of Credits, and work to improve healthcare benefits.”

As part of the conference, the PGA announced winners of its Producers Challenge. Best Produced Short Film was “Think Tank,” produced by Jonathan Deiner; Best Produced Independent Webisode was “Horrible People,” produced by Jonathan Stern, Joe Lo Truglio and A.D.
