‘Princess’ goes Roadside

Historical Hawaiian film to be released in theaters in spring

Roadside Attractions has nabbed U.S. distribution rights to the historical biopic “Princess Kaiulani,” starring Q’orianka Kilcher.

Written and directed by Marc Forby and originally titled “Barbarian Princess,” it bowed in October at the Hawaii fest, where it was awarded the audience award.

Set in Hawaii during the late 1880s, pic tells the story of the titular princess (Kilcher), who’s caught in the last days of the Hawaiian monarchy. Shaun Evans, Will Patton and Barry Pepper also star.

Deal was negotiated by Roadside co-prexies Eric d’Arbeloff and Howard Cohen with Roy Tjioe and Richard Galindez, founders of Island Film Group, which produced along with Matador Pictures.

Roadside plans for a late spring theatrical release, with Lionsgate handling DVD.
